Wonder by R.J. Palacio

"My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse." - Auggie Pullman This one had me at the tagline "You can't blend in when you were born to stand out." It is truly a remarkable book. I haven't met a single person that has read it, that hasn't fallen in love with it. It doesn't matter whether you are eight or eighty, anyone can enjoy this moving story.

The book centres on the lovable August Pullman. Like most ten year old boys Auggie likes ice cream, Star Wars, riding his bike, and his Xbox. Unlike most ten year old boys he has had 27 operations on his face, yet he still looks nothing like the other kids. Because of Auggie's condition he has been home schooled his entire life, but to his dismay his mother decides that maybe it's time he tries a regular school.

Wonder tells the story of this brave kids first year at school and the many trials and tribulations he faces. It is an emotional roller coaster, but ultimately leaves you feeling uplifted and positive. It is an honest, raw, funny and heart breakingly beautiful book. We can all learn a thing or two from Auggie Pullman. I can't recommend this one enough, it will stay with you.

"I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world gets a standing ovation at least once in their lives." - Auggie Pullman
