Been Here All Along by Sandy Hall

"Am I gay or just Kyle-sexual?" "I go through celebrities, models, athlete's. I can understand why someone might find these people aesthetically pleasing, but I don't think I ever imagined kissing anyone until I imagined kissing Kyle in the locker room." - Gideon, Been Here All Along by Sandy Hall.

If you're in need of a sugar fix, well here it is. Gideon is a bright kid with a promising future ahead. He has his life all mapped out. Head down, study hard, get into a great college etc. There's no time for distractions...until he realises he's in love with his best friend Kyle.

Been Here All Along is a sweet boy meets boy romance. It was refreshing to read an LGBT love story that didn't centre around a dramatic coming out scene, or feature tired stereotypes, persecution, misery or death. Times they are a changin.

However I did feel the story lacked edge, but I've been asking for a light gay Rom Com with no major drama and that's what I got, so I guess I can't complain. Yes it's a little fluffy, but I'm glad there are books like this out there for younger readers coming to terms with their sexuality, because when I was growing up, they didn't exist. Praise to Sandy Hall for that. If you want a quick read that's high on cute and low on drama then this one will deliver just that.

"I'm just really happy," he says, rolling away from me and leaning up on his elbow. "I'm so happy it makes me want to hide, because I don't know what to do with it all. I want to store it up and save it for winter." - Kyle
